DRIVING DYNAMICS

Road surface models

3D Mapping Solutions provides digital road surface models with a relative height accuracy of better than 1 m and grid sizes from 1x1 m to 5x5 mm for all kinds of applications.

In the automotive sector, these models are an important basis for a wide range of applications, especially in the areas of tire development, noise analysis, vehicle dynamics and ride comfort simulation.

If required, the road surface models supplement the high-precision reference maps with precise elevation information of the road surface, so that precise input data for vertical vehicle excitation can also be provided for driving simulation or sensor simulation.

IN DETAIL

  • Road surface models in form of axis-accompanying
  • Freely selectable grid sizes, typical values: 0.005 m (driving dynamics), 0.05 m (driving simulation), 0.1 m (ceiling renovation), 1 m (road inventory data)
  • For special applications also 1x1 mm
  • redundantly controlled
  • relative accuracy < 1 mm (usually 0.5 to 0.7 mm)
  • 0.1 mm height resolution
  • Transverse profiles along the axis of the carriageway
  • Variable profile distance
  • Output format user-specific, for automotive applications mostly OpenCRG or RGR
  • Typical accuracy of a surface model for engineering surveying: position < 2 cm, height < 5 mm
  • Possibility of detailed analyses, e.g. rut depth, fictitious water depth, discharge investigations

Digital models of the road surface do not only contain the absolute height information. By combining a high resolution with a high relative accuracy, they offer the possibility to derive relative measures such as the road condition variables "longitudinal evenness" and "transverse evenness" with high precision.

In comparison with existing or planning data, detailed analyses can be carried out and precise statements on target/actual differences can be made.  For example, small-scale wear can be reliably detected, masses for asphalt paving precisely determined and control data for milling very precisely determined.

3D Mapping Solutions is able to classify the longitudinal flatness according to ISO 8608 or IRI.

SPECIAL SURFACE MODELS WITH GRID SIZE 1x1 mm

As special product, we have developed a solution for small-scale surface models with a grid size of 1x1 mm due to customer demand. Usually, such high resolutions are only relevant for a certain section of a track, e.g. noise test tracks or as basic data for chassis dynamometers or roll test beds. We offer to provide you with a frequency analysis on large sections of a certain track based on the standard grid width of the complete track. The frequency analyses serves to identify sections with higher impact frequencies. We will provide the defined sections for you with an additional crg with 1 mm grid width.
